Why I Started the Midlife Renewal Project

why i started the midlife renewal project

I started the Midlife Renewal Project because I reached a point in my 40s where I was thinking a lot more about how I wanted the next part of my life to look.

Nothing was necessarily wrong. I just became more aware of how easy it is to keep saying you want to change something without ever really changing it. There were things I wanted to improve about my health, my habits, my home, the way I spent my time, and even the way I followed through on the things I said mattered to me. I wasn’t looking to completely reinvent myself. I just didn’t want to keep moving through life on autopilot.

That idea is really what this website grew from.

I think midlife has a way of making you pay attention. Your kids get older, your routines change, your body changes, and you start realizing that time moves faster than you thought it would. For me, that brought up a lot of questions about what I wanted to do differently, not someday, but now.

The problem is that I’ve always been very good at knowing what I should do. I can research health, exercise, routines, organization, productivity, mindset, and just about anything else for hours. Knowing what to do has rarely been the issue. Actually doing it consistently is a completely different story.

That is where the word project started to make sense to me.

I don’t see this season of my life as something that needs to be fixed. I see it more like something I want to pay attention to and work on intentionally. Sometimes that means focusing on my health. Sometimes it means cleaning up habits that aren’t serving me anymore, getting my house back in order, creating better routines, or finally acting on an idea I’ve been thinking about for too long.

I also want to start writing more about health here, because it is becoming a bigger priority for me as I get older. I want to understand more about nutrition, strength, energy, metabolism, movement, and what actually helps me feel better in midlife. But I don’t want to write about any of it as though I have everything figured out, because I don’t.

A lot of what I write on this site comes from things I am actively working on myself.

Some weeks I do well. Other weeks I fall right back into old habits. There are things I know I need to change that I am still struggling to follow through on. I think that is actually a more honest way for me to write about midlife, because most of us are not standing at some imaginary finish line. We are in the middle of it, trying things, learning, adjusting, and deciding what we want to do differently.

That is what I want the Midlife Renewal Project to be about.

Not becoming a completely different person. Not chasing some perfect version of midlife. Just being a little more intentional about what comes next.

For me, renewal means looking at my life honestly, figuring out what is working and what isn’t, and choosing something worth improving instead of waiting for motivation or the perfect time to start.

I am still figuring out what that looks like, which is exactly why I started this project in the first place.

If any of this sounds familiar, I hope you’ll stick around.

I’m writing about the things I’m working on in real time, from health and habits to mindset, routines, and figuring out what I want this next chapter to look like.
