Every year, somewhere around October, I start hearing that familiar little voice.

I’ll get serious about eating better after the holidays.

Thanksgiving is coming, Christmas isn’t far behind, and there will be plenty of desserts, family dinners, and busy days. Why bother starting something now when January is right around the corner?

But here’s the problem with that thinking. We essentially write off three months of the year, then spend January trying to undo them.

I’ve done it plenty of times. And the older I get, the less interested I am in spending another January feeling like I need to start my entire life over.

What if we went into the holidays already feeling good about ourselves instead?

You Have Five Weeks. Why Not Use Them?

If you start now, you can complete a five-week reset before Thanksgiving even gets here.

Think about what five weeks of better habits could do. You could be eating more balanced meals, getting a handle on your cravings, feeling more energetic, and becoming more consistent with the things you know you should be doing.

Not because you’ve followed some miserable crash diet, but because you’ve finally stopped waiting for the perfect time.

And imagine sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner without that familiar feeling that you’ve already blown your diet for the year.

You could enjoy the meal, have dessert, and get right back to your normal routine the next day. No guilt. No starting over Monday.

That’s the kind of freedom I’m interested in.

Ready to get started? My Five-Week Midlife Diet Reset Workbook walks you through building healthier eating habits one week at a time, without trying to change everything overnight.

Stop Making the Entire Holiday Season a Free-for-All

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about. Thanksgiving is one day. Christmas is one day. Throw in a handful of parties and family gatherings, and we’re still talking about a relatively small number of special occasions.

So why do we sometimes eat like we’re celebrating for two straight months?

I’m not suggesting we skip the pumpkin pie or turn down Grandma’s Christmas cookies. I fully intend to enjoy my favorite holiday foods.

But there’s a difference between enjoying special occasions and using the entire season as an excuse to stop caring about our health.

Most days between now and January are just regular days. We still have breakfasts to eat, lunches to pack, dinners to make, and opportunities to move our bodies.

Those ordinary days are where the progress happens.

Five Things to Focus on Before Thanksgiving

You don’t need to overhaul your life. Just start practicing a few habits that will make the holidays easier to navigate.

  1. Eat satisfying meals. Include protein and nutritious foods that keep you full instead of trying to survive on tiny portions all day.
  2. Have a plan for your busy days. Keep a few easy meals and snacks available so you’re not constantly grabbing whatever is convenient.
  3. Keep moving. Walk, lift weights, or do whatever movement you enjoy. Don’t wait until January to make it part of your routine.
  4. Enjoy treats intentionally. Have the dessert you really want, enjoy it, and move on. One piece of pie doesn’t ruin anything.
  5. Quit starting over. If you overeat at dinner or miss a workout, just pick up where you left off. You don’t need a new Monday to make your next good decision.

None of these things is complicated. But imagine how different the next few months could feel if you actually practiced them consistently.

Give Yourself a Head Start on January

I think one of the best gifts we can give ourselves this holiday season is the satisfaction of knowing we’re already doing something good for our health.

We don’t have to wait until the decorations come down, the leftovers disappear, and everyone starts talking about New Year’s resolutions.

We can start now.

That’s exactly why I created the Five-Week Midlife Diet Reset Workbook. It helps you build healthier habits gradually, so you’re not trying to change everything at once or relying on motivation to carry you through.
