If you could go back and redesign the last 25 years of your life, what would you change? It’s an interesting question, but for me, the answer is surprisingly simple. Not much.
I spent those years doing exactly what I wanted to do. I got married, became a stay-at-home mom, raised my children, homeschooled them part-time, and built a life centered around my family. Those were wonderful years, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
But now my youngest is 17, and I’m realizing that the life I’ve known for the last 25 years is changing. My children are growing into adults, creating their own lives, and needing me in different ways. For the first time in a long time, I’m looking ahead and asking myself a completely different question.
If I could design the next 25 years of my life, what would I want them to look like?
The Strange In-Between of Midlife
I’ll admit, this transition has been a little confusing.
On one hand, I’m excited about the possibilities ahead. On the other, I still catch myself worrying about my children’s futures, wondering what decisions they’ll make, whether they’ll be happy, and how their lives will unfold.
After spending so many years thinking about their needs, schedules, and futures, it’s not easy to suddenly shift that attention toward myself. Sometimes I even feel guilty for wanting to.
But I’ve started realizing something. I can still love my children, care about their futures, and be there when they need me without making their lives the entire focus of mine.
And maybe that’s one of the biggest adjustments of midlife. Learning to give our grown children room to build their lives while giving ourselves permission to build something new, too.
What Do I Want to Do With the Next 25 Years?
The more I’ve thought about it, the more exciting this question has become.
There are things I’ve wanted to do for years that simply weren’t practical during the busiest seasons of raising children. Not because I was unhappy or felt like I was missing out, but because my priorities were exactly where I wanted them to be.
Now those priorities are shifting, and new opportunities are opening up.
One of the first things I decided to tackle was my health and fitness. I wanted to become stronger, healthier, and more disciplined about taking care of myself. It’s still a work in progress, but I love having something I’m actively working toward.
Another was starting this blog. For nearly 10 years, I had wanted to write, create digital products, and build something that could encourage other women. I just never had the time or mental space to give it the attention it deserved.
Now I’m doing it. I’m learning new things, challenging myself, making plans, and discovering that there’s still so much I want to accomplish.
And it’s made me wonder how many other women have dreams they’ve quietly tucked away, assuming they’ll get around to them someday.
What if someday is finally here?
You Don’t Have to Start Over to Create Something New
That’s really the idea behind my Project Me Blueprint Series. Instead of waiting for life to change on its own, you can start intentionally creating the changes you want to see.
Whether that means improving your health, building better habits, becoming more disciplined, or creating a home that supports the life you want, you can begin with a plan.

You don’t have to change everything at once. You just have to decide what matters to you now and start giving it some attention.
Your Next Chapter Doesn’t Have to Be a Waiting Room
One thing I know I don’t want is to spend the next chapter of my life simply waiting for the next exciting thing to happen in my children’s lives.
Of course, I look forward to watching them build careers, get married, possibly have families of their own, and experience all the wonderful things adulthood can bring. Those moments will always matter to me.
But I want to have adventures of my own, too.
I want to keep learning, improving, building, and trying things I’ve never done before. I want to look forward to the next 25 years with the same excitement I had about the last 25, even if that excitement looks completely different now.
And I think we sometimes forget that we’re allowed to do that.
We don’t have to spend midlife wishing we could go back or worrying about everything that might happen next. We can appreciate the wonderful years behind us while getting excited about the ones still ahead.
So here’s a question worth sitting down and seriously considering:
If you could design the next 25 years of your life, what would they look like?
Not what everyone else needs from you. Not what you think you’re supposed to do at this age. What would you genuinely love to experience, accomplish, change, or become?
Maybe it’s time to stop waiting for the next chapter to unfold and start deciding what you want to write in it.
If you’re ready to turn those ideas into actual goals and habits, my Project Me Blueprint Series is designed to help you start building that next chapter, one intentional step at a time.
