If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had the same goals on your mind for years.
Lose weight.
Get healthier.
Declutter the house.
Start the business.
Be more organized.
Have a better attitude.
Take better care of yourself.
The list goes on and on.
The problem isn’t that we don’t have goals. Most of us have too many of them.
I think that’s why so many women in midlife feel overwhelmed. We wake up every day feeling like we need to completely reinvent ourselves overnight. We want to change our health, our mindset, our homes, our finances, our relationships, and maybe even our careers.
That’s a lot.
Lately, I’ve been realizing something:
I don’t need another giant to-do list.
I don’t need another complicated system.
And I definitely don’t need to feel guilty because I didn’t magically change my life in one week.
What I need is something simple.
Something that moves me forward without overwhelming me.
That’s where the Pick 3 Method comes in.
What Is the Pick 3 Method?
It’s exactly what it sounds like.
Every day, I pick three things that will move my life forward.
Not twenty things.
Not an impossible checklist.
Just three.
Three actions that help me become the woman I want to be.
Some days my three things are focused on my health.
Some days they’re focused on my mindset.
Some days they’re focused on my home, my blog, or a project I’m working toward.
The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is progress.
Because I don’t believe we transform our lives through one big decision.
I think we transform our lives through small choices repeated over and over again.
Why the Pick 3 Method Works
Most of us are trying to change everything at once.
We tell ourselves:
“I’m going to exercise every day, stop eating sugar, organize my entire house, start journaling, wake up earlier, start a business, and have a positive attitude.”
No wonder we get overwhelmed.
The Pick 3 Method gives your brain permission to simplify.
You only need to focus on three things today.
That’s it.
You don’t have to reinvent your entire life before dinner.
You just need to take three steps forward.
And those small steps add up.
Your Pick 3 Can Be for Your Mental Health
Sometimes your renewal starts in your mind.
Any of the three things might look like these:
- Journal for five minutes
- Read ten pages of a personal growth book
- Listen to a podcast while walking
- Read a Bible verse
- Write down three things you’re grateful for
- Spend ten minutes in prayer
These things may seem small, but little by little they begin changing how you think.
And how we think affects how we live.
Your Pick 3 Can Be for Your Physical Health
Sometimes your body needs your attention.
Any of the three things might look like this:
- Walk for 30 minutes
- Drink more water
- Eat protein at every meal
- Have a no-sugar day
- Strength train for twenty minutes
- Go to bed earlier
Again, these aren’t huge changes.
They’re simple promises you can actually keep.
Because every healthy choice is a vote for the person you’re becoming.
Your Pick 3 Can Help You Work Toward a Goal
Maybe your dream is starting a blog.
Maybe it’s building a business.
Maybe it’s getting your finances in order.
Maybe it’s finally writing that book.
Any of the three things might look like this:
- Write one blog post
- Create one Pinterest pin
- Research business ideas
- Read for thirty minutes
- Clean out your office
- Work on your budget
Big goals often feel intimidating because we’re staring at the entire mountain.
The Pick 3 Method reminds us that mountains are climbed one step at a time.
The Real Purpose of the Pick 3 Method
The purpose isn’t simply checking things off a list.
It’s becoming someone new.
Not because the old version of you is bad.
She isn’t.
She has survived hard things.
She’s done the best she could with what she knew at the time.
But I think many of us reach midlife and realize we want something different.
We want to feel healthier.
More energetic.
More organized.
More disciplined.
More peaceful.
More hopeful.
We want to become the version of ourselves we’ve been putting on the back burner for years.
The Pick 3 Method helps us do that.
Because every day we choose three actions that align with the person we’re becoming.
And eventually those actions become habits.
Those habits become routines.
Those routines become our lifestyle.
And that lifestyle becomes our identity.
What My Pick 3 Might Look Like
Some days my three things might be:
- Walk for 30 minutes.
- Declutter one drawer.
- Have a no-sugar day.
Other days:
- Write for one hour.
- Drink enough water.
- Journal for five minutes.
Or:
- Strength train.
- Organize one shelf.
- Read ten pages.
Simple.
Not overwhelming.
Just three things that move my life forward.
The Midlife Renewal Project Isn’t About Perfection
I don’t think renewing your life means waking up one day and becoming a completely different person.
I think it’s much smaller than that.
It’s choosing three things today.
Then choosing three things tomorrow.
And then doing it again.
Little by little, you build new habits.
A new mindset.
More confidence.
More self-trust.
More momentum.
You slowly become the woman you’re trying to create.
Not overnight.
But one small choice at a time.
Because maybe changing your life in midlife isn’t about setting bigger goals.
Maybe it’s about simply asking yourself:
What are the three things I can do today that will move me closer to the person I want to become?
And then doing those three things.
That’s it.
That’s the Pick 3 Method.
And honestly, it might be one of the simplest ways to start your own Midlife Renewal Project.
