If I’m being completely honest, I know exactly how to lose weight.
I know I need to eat fewer calories. I know I need to cut back on sugar. I know I need to prioritize protein, move my body, sleep more, and stop mindlessly snacking at night.
There is no mystery.
And yet, here I am in midlife, still struggling.
Maybe you can relate.
I do really well for two days. I meal prep. I track my food. I feel motivated. I go for my walks. I drink my water. I feel like this time is going to be different.
Then life happens.
I get stressed. I get tired. Someone brings dessert into the house. I have a rough day. I want comfort. I tell myself I’ll start over tomorrow.
Then tomorrow turns into five days.
Five days become a week.
Then I get frustrated that nothing has changed, so I start all over again.
The cycle repeats.
I don’t think I’m alone in this.
I think there are a lot of women in midlife who know exactly what works. We just struggle to keep doing it long enough to see results.
The Basics Are Boring
I think this is the truth I keep avoiding.
The things that actually work for weight loss are incredibly boring.
Eat a little less.
Move your body consistently.
Eat more protein.
Get enough sleep.
Manage stress.
Repeat.
That’s it.
No magic detoxes.
No fat-burning foods.
No secret supplement.
No hack that melts belly fat.
The basics work.
But they’re not exciting.
We’re always hoping there is something easier because the truth feels so ordinary.
I know I’ve spent years looking for the thing that would make weight loss easier.
The perfect meal plan.
The perfect workout.
The perfect motivation.
The perfect timing.
But the older I get, the more I realize there probably isn’t a shortcut.
The Real Problem Isn’t Knowledge
I don’t need more information.
I need more consistency.
That’s the hard part.
I can be disciplined for a couple of days.
I can even be disciplined for a week.
But can I keep showing up for myself for months?
That’s where I struggle.
Because consistency is boring.
It’s repetitive.
It’s making similar choices over and over again.
It’s saying no to yourself sometimes.
It’s doing things when you don’t feel like it.
And unfortunately, consistency doesn’t give you instant rewards.
You don’t eat one healthy meal and wake up five pounds lighter.
You don’t take one walk and suddenly have a flat stomach.
The results come slowly.
Sometimes painfully slowly.
That’s why so many of us quit.
I Think Stress Is My Biggest Weight Loss Obstacle
When I’m stressed, I don’t crave chicken and vegetables.
I crave comfort.
I want something sweet.
I want something easy.
I want something that makes me feel good right now.
Food becomes a reward.
A break.
An escape.
A little bit of happiness in a busy day.
I think many of us aren’t just fighting calories.
We’re fighting habits.
We’re fighting emotions.
We’re fighting the desire for comfort.
And that’s why weight loss feels so hard.
Because it isn’t just about food.
It’s about learning how to keep showing up even when life gets messy.
The Life Hack We’re All Looking For
I think I finally figured out the real life hack.
It’s not a supplement.
It’s not intermittent fasting.
It’s not the perfect workout.
It’s consistency.
Consistency is the life hack.
It’s being willing to have an imperfect day and not quit.
It’s making one good choice after another.
It’s getting back on track after one bad meal instead of waiting until Monday.
It’s realizing that progress doesn’t come from being perfect.
It comes from repeating boring behaviors for a very long time.
I know that isn’t exciting.
I wish I had a better answer.
I wish there were an easier way.
But maybe the women who successfully lose weight aren’t the most motivated.
Maybe they’re simply the women who learn how to stay consistent long enough for the boring things to finally work.
If You’re Starting Over Again, You’re Not Alone
If you’re like me and you keep falling into the cycle of doing great for two days and then giving up for five, I created my free Midlife Starter Kit to help you simplify the process.
Sometimes we don’t need another complicated plan. We just need a place to begin again with a few simple habits that actually move the needle.
You can grab it below and start fresh today.
My New Goal
I’m not trying to be perfect anymore.
I’m not trying to overhaul my entire life overnight.
I’m not looking for another hack.
I’m trying to become someone who can do the boring things consistently.
Someone who can keep going after an off day.
Someone who can be patient enough to let small habits compound.
Because maybe that’s the real transformation in midlife.
Not finding the perfect diet.
But becoming the kind of woman who keeps showing up for herself, even when the results take longer than she hoped.
And if consistency is something you struggle with too, that’s exactly why I created my 90-Day Midlife Renewal Journal. Every page is designed to help you reflect, reset, and keep moving forward one day at a time. Because real change rarely happens in two perfect days. It happens through dozens of ordinary days where you simply decide not to quit.
The boring things work.
The hard part is doing them long enough to see it.
And maybe that’s the weight loss truth I’ve been avoiding all along.

And if you’re needing a diet guide to go along with this, I’ve also created for myself my 5-Week Diet Reset. It’s a nice and easy way to ease yourself into better eating habits.
